How to place a student in Progress Monitor at the beginning of a new school year

Begin by using the classroom chart to identify where a student ended in the previous year. Their scores will be displayed in a light grey colour. You can print this chart for reference or mark the scores on your scoring sheet.

If a student has no assessment data from the previous year, begin at Challenge 1 and follow the scoring rules.

If a student has data from a previous year, you must first assess the student according to the placement assessment protocol, by beginning to assess two Challenges before where the student left off.

Once you have assessed the student with PARA and obtained scores, enter your data in Progress Monitor using the regular data entry button. The first time you enter data for a student with the previous year’s data, the window will show a New School Year Placement.

The scores from the previous year will be indicated with a blue circle (). Select the date, enter the score for the highest Challenge completed successfully in the new school year, and click submit.

In this example, the student scored 3 on Challenge 3.

Please note that you will NOT need to re-select all previous year scores; these will be shown in green by default the next time you enter data, and will continue to be shown in light grey font on the Classroom chart.

After entering the first scores using the New School Year Placement window, all following assessments and associated data entry will follow the standard process. You will see the regular data entry window from this point onwards, with the option to select a No Progress assessment.
